Yet another romcom affair and Ranbir Kapoor has scored well right on the very first day of release. It was 10 years back when Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani had arrived [May 2013] and had scored quite well at the box office by taking an opening of Rs 19.45 crores. Ever since then, quite a few other romcoms arrived but none could even come close to these numbers. Well, now in March 2023, finally there is a romcom which has done really good business, what with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar taking a start of Rs 15.73 crores.
The film was seeing good curiosity around it though till a couple of days before the release, it was clear that it won't quite challenge Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to make a dash towards the Rs 20 crores mark. It was going to be a decent opening for sure and while a double digit start was a given, anything in Rs 12-14 crores wasn't being debated. It was only a few hours before the release that it started becoming more and more apparent that eventually the Rs 14 crores mark would be crossed as well and with some push even Rs 15 crores milestone would be met.
Well, the numbers came pretty much in this range, hence going past other romcoms like Shaandaar [Rs 13.10 crores], Badrinath Ki Dulhania [Rs 12.25 crores] and Cocktail [Rs 11 crores]. The good thing about this Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor film directed by Luv Ranjan is that audience word of mouth as well as critical response are both quite positive. On the flipside, Thursday is a regular working day, which means there would be a dip in numbers. The story would be repeated on Friday as well before the numbers start going up all over again on Saturday/Sunday.
