Yet another week, yet another biggie. Exactly 6 months after the release of Jolly LLB 2 (which came on 11th February this year), Akshay Kumar is returning with Toilet – Ek Prem Katha on 11th August. For an actor who typically comes with a film of his every three to four months, this seems like a rather long break. That said, he was seen on screen in an extended special appearance in Naam Shabana in the interim period.
The film is arriving at a time when the industry definitely needs a biggie to keep the fire burning at the Box Office. There are a lot of ticks that are in the right place for the social light hearted family entertainer. First and foremost the promo has made a good impression and it has been playing non-stop since it was unveiled around a couple of months back. The reception on both the mediums, online as well as in theaters, has been positive. Secondly, Akshay Kumar’s name is now synonymous with quality cinema. Airlift, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2 and now Toilet – Ek Prem Katha – each of these has been relevant films.
The issue brought to fore in the film, that of toilets being unavailable in the large part of the country, could well be very much relatable to major chunk of the country’s population. To ensure that this doesn’t turn out to be a dry, documentary type affair, Akshay and his team have incorporated elements of love story, humor and drama in there which give it a commercial touch.
There is no competition though from last Friday release Jab Harry Met Sejal since that is hardly going to make any impression in the second week. Toilet – Ek Prem Katha still has enough space available for it to find its audience. All of these factors combined together would ensure that the opening day numbers are in the range of Rs. 13-14 crore. Given the kind of budget that the film carries, a start like this would be good enough for it to comfortably go past the safety mark in the first week itself.
