Padmaavat has crossed Rs. 50 crore at the Box Office. The film came on its own on Friday when theaters where it is being screened started evidencing much better footfalls than Thursday with Rs. 32 crore coming in. This was pretty much on the cards as a) it was Republic Day holiday and b) the scare factor amongst audiences had started diminishing. Of course, since the word of mouth around the film is not out and out superlative, there was always a little worry factor around whether there would be huge growth. Thankfully, Friday has passed unscathed as those who couldn't catch the film on Thursday did eventually step in.
Actual word of mouth would be spread now since a large segment of audience has now watched the film and their reviews would start coming in. Still, since by and large there isn't anything negative around the film, the only difference would come in around how big the collections would ultimately turn out to be in the eventual lifetime.
The film benefits immensely from the fact that there are two open weeks for it, and hence consolidation after a good start won't be a problem. While it is a given that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali would comfortably go past the Rs. 150 crore mark in its lifetime run, the real challenge would be its quest for the 200 Crore Club. That would truly define the stardom that Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor are set to gain long after the release of Padmaavat.
