It's been three weeks now since we saw the so called clash of the titans on the big screen with Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale going head to head at the box office. In fact many had predicted that Dilwale featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon would take the lead at the box office while Bajirao Mastani, featuring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra would take a back seat. However, now three weeks since their release, we see a surprising trend with the latter overtaking Dilwale in terms of collections.
In this Box Office analysis we compare the two films viz Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale, taking their overall collections in terms of Indian box office (domestic market) collections and their Overseas collections as well. Interestingly, while Dilwale took the initial lead in the domestic market, Bajirao Mastani that had a slow start picked up pace post the opening week. In fact, Bajirao Mastani that received glowing reviews from the critics and audiences alike fast pipped Dilwale in the domestic market to emerge as the leader collecting Rs. 162.35 crores nett. While Dilwale managed to collect Rs. 140.78 crores net.
But, in the Overseas markets, which have ardent Shah Rukh Khan fans, Dilwale has managed to take the top slot with collections being pegged at Rs. 149.62 cr gross, while Bajirao Mastani has managed to collect Rs. 89.85 cr gross. Similarly in terms of Worldwide collections Dilwale still retains the top slot with collections of Rs. 350.73 cr, as compared to Bajirao Mastani that collected Rs. 321.88 cr.
While Dilwale has obviously lost out to Bajirao Mastani in the domestic market, it still retains the top slot in the Overseas and Worldwide categories. However, what is clearly evident from the collections comparison is the fact that while Bajirao Mastani still lags behind Dilwale, the difference between them is just about Rs. 28.85 crores, a margin that can easily be covered by Bajirao Mastani in the coming weeks.
