After a disappointing opening on Friday [Rs. 8.87 crore], the only thing that could have helped Mohenjo Daro as a huge jump on Saturday. That wasn't quite on the cards as by and large, neither the critical acclaim nor audience word of mouth was favorable for the film. Still, there is always hope for a miracle and this is what the makers of this period drama set 4000 years back must have hoped for.
Well, that didn't quite happen as Saturday collections were a mere Rs. 9.60 crore. With this, the Ashutosh Gowariker directed film is turning out to be a disappointing fare as the collections so far stand at a very low Rs. 18.47 crore. Ideally, these should have been the Day One collections of the film, had there been no clash. Even with a clash, at least Rs. 15 crore on the first day were needed for the film. The fact that the film is very far away from such milestone means now it is a matter of seeing how far does Mohenjo Daro travel after the extended four day weekend.
In terms of numbers, what is all the more shocking about the film is the fact that even the two days collections of Mohenjo Daro are lesser than Day One collections of some of Hrithik Roshan's other biggies:
Bang Bang [1 day] - Rs. 27.54 crore
Agneepath [1 day] - Rs. 23 crore
Krrish 3 [1 day] - Rs. 19 crore
Mohenjo Daro [2 days] - Rs. 18.47 crore
This pretty much explains how Mohenjo Daro is truly struggling to gain a foothold for itself amongst the audience. Moreover, other than the issues it is facing as a standalone affair, the competition from Rustom is further hitting it hard as the Akshay Kumar starrer is going great guns and is fast becoming the fast choice for the audience. While that would remain now on a daily basis, it would be interesting to see how much wider does the gap turn out to be on a day to day basis as the film's collections emerge after today and tomorrow.
