New benchmarks have been set by the latest Hollywood release Avengers: Infinity War. The film has taken the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film, what with Rs. 94.30 crore coming in. This was helped by another superb day as Sunday brought in Rs. 32.50 crore more. The film was running to packed capacity on the third day of release.
Leave aside the comparison that the biggest weekend ever for a Hollywood film [Fast and Furious 7] was just Rs. 50.11 crore, the record for even the biggest first week ever [Rs. 74.63 crore scored by The Jungle Book] has been smashed by a distance. What has to be seen though is whether the lifetime number of Rs. 108 crore scored by Fast and Furious 7 would be surpassed today itself or would it take time till tomorrow.
When compared to Bollywood releases, the film is far ahead of the first thee day numbers of Padmaavat [Rs. 78 crore] and Baaghi 2 [Rs. 73.1 crore]. Though Padmaavat eventually emerged into a different league altogether, the first major milestone for Avengers: Infinity War would be to go past the lifetime number of Baaghi 2 [around Rs. 165 crore]. Going by the trends, that should be possible during the second weekend.
Since there is a partial holiday today [Buddh Poornima], the film would comfortably stay over the Rs. 15 crore mark. However if the collections come close to the Rs. 20 crore mark, sky would be the limit for this superhero franchise.
