Akshay Kumar's Rustom has enjoyed a hefty weekend at the Box Office, what with Sunday bringing in Rs. 19.88 crore more. The collections so far read Rs. 50.42 crore and while even these numbers would have been good enough for the Akshay Kumar starrer, as the adage goes - 'picture abhi baaki hai'. Reason being that today is the BIG Independence Day holiday and that means that added numbers - even if equal to yesterday - would give this Tinu Suresh Desai film a huge advantage.
On a regular Monday, the collections are typically 60% of Friday for a liked film. This means Rustom would have collected around Rs. 8.5 crore on Monday, considering Friday was Rs. 14.11 crore. However, the fact that it would collect huge on Monday now due to holiday gives it an advantage of around 10 crore, which is simply fabulous.
As it happens with films that have been given a thumbs-up by the audience, the holiday advantage turns out to be really huge. This is what would further go in favor of Rustom as there are multiple (partial) holidays ahead. With Parsi New Year [17th August] and Rakhi [18th August] around in days to follow, Rustom would gain at least 5-6 crore more, which is a substantial amount.
Akshay Kumar, Zee Studios and KriArj Entertainment made a bold move to arrive on 12th August despite the fact that a biggie like Mohenjo Daro had already announced its release day much in advance. However, it has paid off in a big way now as the clash has only established the credentials of Rustom as a better film and that has only added on to all the hype.
The gamble has paid off, and how!
