Box Office: Poor show for Bollywood in theatres

By Joginder Tuteja

With virtually no audience in theatres, it has turned out to be the lowest Friday of the year at the Box Office. The second half of 2016 has started on a disastrous note as the newer releases just couldn't bring in audience into theatres. Shorgul was always meant to be dependent on critical acclaim and word of mouth, and hence one would have to wait and watch till Sunday before it is really known where the Jimmy Sheirgill and Ashutosh Rana film is headed. As for Kerry On Kutton, it never had a chance (courtesy miniscule promotion and release) and the negligible collections have only established that further.

There is nothing really coming in from holdover releases either and though Raman Raghav 2.0, Junooniyat and Udta Punjab are still running at a show or two, that doesn't amount to much of a collection. Independence Day: Resurgence is collecting on the lower side as well and though it would perhaps have weekend's best collections of the lot when compared to everything else in the offering for the audience, it doesn't say much about the state of affairs in theatres.

The silver lining is that this scenario would prevail only till Tuesday because things should dramatically change once Salman Khan starrer Sultan hits the screens on Wednesday, July 6.
