The week gone by was hardly exciting for the film industry, going by the response to the two releases, KARZ-THE BURDEN OF TRUTH and RISHTEY. But the distributors of the two films aren't complaining. Says Vinay Choksey, the Mumbai distributor of RISHTEY, “If the collections haven't been too good, they haven't been bad either.” Vinay adds that the film is unlikely to be a losing proposition in Mumbai territory.
The Mumbai distributor of KARZ, Pinky Badlani, is honest about the fact that the film hasn't fared as expected. “The Idd period worked for the film's opening but after the first three days, the collections started dropping sharply,” he says. Badlani blames the content of the film for its lacklustre response. “The story had nothing new to offer. Even the action-based second half was far from convincing,” he adds.
Badlani admits that with KAANTE getting postponed to next week, KARZ would get a breather for one more week. “To be honest, had KAANTE released in the Idd week, both RISHTEY and KARZ would have got wiped off. The postponement of the film has proved to be a blessing in disguise for us,” he says.
Let's have a look at the midweek response to KARZ and RISHTEY. An IndiaFM exclusive.
