Sex sells. And sex with harmonious music is invincible. Coupled with wonderful promotion, there's no stopping the film from opening big at the ticket window. In addition, if the film happens to be a franchise, it acts as sone pe suhaaga. Recall RAGINI MMS-2. Now HATE STORY-2 is treading the same path.
Unlike RAGINI MMS-2, HATE STORY-2 doesn't have a 'star' to grab eyeballs or attract attention instantaneously. Nor does it have the horror quotient to lure audiences. Besides, the film has been released during the holy month of Ramadan, when a big chunk of the movie-going audience stays away from cinemas. Additionally, HATE STORY-2 has just one week to score big, since the keenly-awaited biggie KICK storms next week. Despite so many limitations, HATE STORY-2 has emerged triumphant at the BO.
T-Series, the producers of HATE STORY-2, are known to promote films aggressively. Recall the stupendous pre-release promotion of AASHIQUI-2 and YAARIYAN. The music company/producers ensured that the two films - the first starring relative newcomers, the other starring newcomers - were visible on all platforms of communication, prior to their release. That was one of the key reasons why the films in question opened to impressive numbers.
The tremendous start of HATE STORY-2 caught everyone unaware. However, the strong merits ensured that the film was on firm footing not just on its opening day, but all through the weekend. Generally, this genre is known to perform better at single screens, but in this case, the numbers at plexes multiplied on Day 1 itself, with the film maintaining its pace all through the weekend.
With a fabulous weekend on hand, HATE STORY-2 has already emerged a success story for its makers. T-Series made love stories [AASHIQUI-2] a Super Hit and now, has made hate stories [HATE STORY-2] a Smash Hit as well.
The other two films, AMIT SAHNI KI LIST and PIZZA 3D, had to struggle at ticket window to leave a mark, although the business did witness an upward trend. With HATE STORY-2 walking away with a substantial share of movie-going audience and HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA and the Marathi film LAI BHAARI maintaining rock-steady biz in Weekend 2, AMIT SAHNI KI LIST and PIZZA 3D were relegated to the back seat, despite positive reviews and good word of mouth coming their way.
