‘Gangs Of Wasseypur 2’: What went wrong?

By Bollywood Hungama

Let's face it: GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 has underperformed at the BO. The film had just one week to leave an impression, but the day-wise business clearly indicates that the film has failed to accumulate an impressive total. What could be the reasons? Lack of popular name/s in its star cast? Limited appeal? Or lack of interest in the second part? Barring Mumbai and Delhi [multiplexes], which contributed the utmost, the poor show in several circuits is for all to see. In fact, the business of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 is lower than the first part at most centres, despite the second part carrying better word of mouth.

With EK THA TIGER invading the cineplexes on Wednesday [today], all films, including GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2, will be limited to 1 or 2 shows at major plexes [several cineplexes are *only* screening EK THA TIGER]. So was it erroneous to release the film on a weekday [the previews were held on Tuesday, while the film had a proper release on Wednesday], barely one week before EK THA TIGER? Had it opened after Idd, once the EK THA TIGER euphoria settled down, the business could've been enhanced? However, with so many films lined up week after week, what choice did Viacom18 have, frankly? In fact, Viacom18 needs to be lauded for promoting the two parts with gusto, spending a fat amount on their promotions and ensuring that the two parts were visible on all platforms of advertising/promotion.

Earlier RAKHT CHARITRA 2 and now GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 have netted lower than the respective first parts.
