Salman Khan spoke his heart out during the group interaction held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai as part of promotions of Sikandar. The film is directed by Tamil director A R Murugadoss (who earlier made Ghajini) and he talked about how he has always been open to working with South directors since the very beginning.

"I was the FIRST one to start working with South directors from our generation; they respect me as they have made a lot of films inspired by my dad's stories; K V Vijayendra Prasad revisit his films before writing" - Salman Khan

He began by saying, “Ram Charan, Taarak (Jr NTR) etc. have grown up in front of me. They were just starting out at that time. I knew Venky (Venkatesh) really well. We have been friends for 30-35 years. I also know Chiru garu (Chiranjeevi) well. I even did a Thums Up commercial with him. In fact, I was the first one to start working with South directors from our generation. I have worked with K. Murali Mohana Rao. I also did Love (1991) and Jaagruti (1992) with Suresh Krissna.”

When asked about the content of South filmmakers, he explained, “Technically, they are very advanced. Emotionally also, they are very advanced. Woh filmon se film nahin banate hai. They come up with new subjects.”

He clarified, “It’s not like all films down South are well-made. Even there, 2-3 films release every week and not all of them do huge business. Hence, maamla har jagah same hi hai. Acchi film banaoge toh woh chalegi.”

Salman Khan then revealed, “They (South filmmakers) also respect me because I am Salim saab’s son. At that time, heroism was brought into mainstream cinema by dad. They have made a lot of films inspired by my dad’s stories. K V Vijayendra Prasad ji told me, ‘Whenever I write something, I have to revisit your father’s films and then I start writing’. Hence, dad has earned a lot of respect down South.”

Sikandar releases in cinemas worldwide on March 30.
