Saif Ali Khan recently revealed that Shah Rukh Khan had once approached him for a role in Main Hoon Na. The actor opened up about the conversation during an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama while speaking about working with Shah Rukh and Red Chillies Entertainment. Saif and Shah Rukh are currently collaborating once again with the upcoming Kartavya, which marks their reunion after more than two decades since Kal Ho Naa Ho. However, this time, the dynamic has changed, with Shah Rukh backing the project as a producer while Saif headlines the film.
During the interview, Saif was asked whether projects become more exciting when they come from Shah Rukh Khan. Responding to the question, the actor shared an interesting anecdote from the early 2000s. “Yes, of course. He once called me for Main Hoon Na. He said there’s a great part,” Saif recalled.
The actor then went on to mention that filmmaker Farah Khan later contacted him regarding the project. “And then, Farah called me later and said no, no, no,” he said while laughing.
Directed by Farah Khan, the 2004 film starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role alongside Sushmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year and remains a fan favourite even today.
Speaking further about Red Chillies Entertainment, Saif praised the production house for backing exciting concepts. “It’s a wonderful production. And I think they pick up really exciting and interesting ideas at Red Chillies. It was very cool to get an offer like that,” he added.

Over the years, Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have shared memorable on-screen chemistry in films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, where their performances as Rohit and Aman became hugely popular with audiences. Their latest collaboration, Kartavya, has already generated curiosity among fans eager to see the two stars reunite in a new capacity.
The upcoming Netflix release is scheduled to premiere on May 15, 2026.
