Reports have it that, when Chitra was in Sharjah to perform at AR Rahman's concert when she got news that Nandana fell into the swimming pool while playing and drowned and was pronounced dead when rushed to the hospital. The family returned to Chennai on Friday morning and the funeral took place last evening.

Nandana was special child and was born to Chitra after 15 years of marriage. Chitra named her as 'Nandana', after she sung a devotional song in the movie 'Nandanam'.
