'Khakee' in legal trouble

By IndiaFM News Bureau -

Rajkumar Santoshi's cop-film Khakee, basking in its first week success, has landed into legal trouble. A Gurgaon based writer, Brijan Gaur, has filed a copyright infringement case against Santoshi and the producer of Khakee, Keshu Ramsay. Gaur, who claims to be a member of Filmwriter's Association, Mumbai, alleged that Santoshi has lifted the central idea of Khakee from his story Zokhim, which he had registered with the Filmwriter's Association in February 1992. Gaur further added that he had given a formal narration of his story to Santoshi in 1991, but Santoshi neither bothered to seek his permission nor gave him any credit for using his story. Gaur had issued legal notices to both Santoshi and Ramsay in December 2003 demanding for the contract amount or one time royalty for using his story. Meanwhile Santoshi stated that he never met Gaur and the story of Khakee was penned by Sridhar Raghavan. The next court hearing is on February 10.
