After winning accolades for his writing [dialogues] in PARTNER, Sanjay Chhel is back to his first love -- direction. After making two films, KHOOBSURAT and KYAA DIL NE KAHAA, Chhel is planning to direct two films one after the other. The first, titled MAAN GAYE MUGHAL-E-AZAM, is a comedy, while the second is titled PATEL – PUNJABI [it was initially titled KHANNA – PATEL].
“MAAN GAYE MUGHAL-E-AZAM stresses on humour. It’s a dhamaal film, but not a mindless entertainer. There’s a purpose for everything that’s depicted on screen,” Chhel states, “It’s on the lines of JAANE BHI DO YAARO… It revolves around a theatre group.” Chhel has signed Paresh Rawal, Rahul Bose and Javed Jaffrey for principal roles, while a few more names are under finalization. The Jains of Venus will produce this film.
The second project, PATEL – PUNJABI, will revolve around two characters – a Gujarati and a Punjabi. “Paresh Rawal and Mithun Chakraborty have agreed in principle to act in the film,” Chhel divulges. Percept Picture Company will produce this project.
