Why does UTV have sub-brands like Spot Boy and Classics? Click here to add this article to My Clips

One of the leading production companies in India, UTV motion pictures is in an all time spate of expansion. With hoards of films coming under their banner, we find out about their upcoming films and sub brands from Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV.

We begin with a speculation that is doing the rounds recently. Reportedly Priyanka Chopra has signed a three film deal with UTV. Siddharth Roy Kapoor talks about the speculation “We don’t have any conformation to make right now. I would neither confirm nor deny this. When we have something to announce we will do it at that time.”

So till the official announcement of Priyanka’s deal, we find out about the other films that are lined up under the UTV Banner “We have Goal and Jodha Akbar which are two of our biggest projects. Then there is Mumbai Meri Jaan, Wednesday directed by Neeraj Pandey and Game On by Nupur Asthana. We have a few other projects which we will announce at the right time. In addition to these films we are also doing a film with Rakyesh Mehra and Vishal Bharadwaj.”

With so many films in the line up UTV has launched sub brands like UTV Classics and Spotboy. So what is the status of these brands “UTV Classics will be launched with Blue Umbrella which is a very special film. It’s a film that is for all ages and is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. We are going to launch it under the UTV Classics brand because it is in that zone of a very high quality product. And what about Spot Boy? “Spot Boy motion picture is another sub brand of UTV. It’s developed the same way a Disney would have a Buena Vista. It’s just another sub brand under which we can launch various films. We have got a wide range under the UTV motion pictures already and we want to develop an even wider space and launch it under different brands.”

With a UTV Motion picture why is there a need for so many sub brands? Siddharth explains the concept “As a company develops it is important to build various sub- brands which will help the mother brand. An idea really is that if ultimately it’s a UTV movie it stands for something in the minds of a consumer. It stands for quality and a certain level of cinema is what we like to believe. And within that we would like to build up certain sub brands which will actually go forward on their own and have their own development state with a separate team which works on that sub brand.”

“We haven’t defined brands on basis of movie genres. At the moment it’s just a new brand which we have launched and we will be figuring out which movies go under which sub-brand as we go along”, Siddharth concludes.
