Mahesh Manjrekar producing and acting in a film on 'Marathi Manus'

Mahesh Manjrekar has been missing from the Bollywood scene for quite some time now. The last time we saw the actor perform was on the dance competition show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa on the small screen.
So after his short sabbatical Manjrekar is back with a film and this time playing the double role of an actor as well as a producer. However it’s a Marathi film. And this time he is not playing the role of a director. The film will be directed by the duo of Atul-Sudesh who directed the critically acclaimed Marathi film Matichya Chuli last year.
This Marathi film has Sachin Khedekar playing the lead role along with Mahesh Manjrekar. Sachin Khedekar plays the role of Dinkar Bhonsale, a common troubled ‘Marathi Manus’ (Marathi Man). The ‘Marathi Manus’ today feels he is at the receiving end of everything right from politics, business or education. And out of frustration, he starts pointing fingers at the North Indian, South Indians and other communities. But this is far from the truth. And the truth is that he is himself responsible for his debacle. Dinkar Bhonsale... such a common troubled Marathi Manus embarks on a journey of self realization and ends up changing the fate of millions of Marathi people in Mumbai.
The film essentially is a social drama and is an unusually big Marathi film produced by Mahesh Manjrekar. The level at which the film is mounted and will be released can be compared to the Marathi film Dombivli Fast that released in 2005 and is now being remade in Tamil too. In fact as per sources this is the most expensive Marathi film made till today.
From the director duo, Atul Kale has worked as a character artist in many Mahesh Manjrekar films like Vaastav, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, Tera Mera Saath Rahen, Pitaah, Hathyar and Viruddh. Sudesh Manjrekar is Mahesh Manjrekar’s younger brother and has worked as an assistant director in all the above mentioned movies.
