'Tiger In The Woods' Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Taran Adarsh, April 11, 2007 - 03:04 IST

The film is called TIGER IN THE WOODS. No, it has nothing to do with Tiger Woods. Nor is it a documentary on the wild life. That’s the title of Akashdeep’s new film, which takes a look at the cultural differences between those living in U.K. and India. Sounds familiar? Haven’t we seen something similar in THE NAMESAKE and to an extent, NAMASTEY LONDON?

Akashdeep, who has directed MISS 420 [Baba Sehgal, Sheeba] and GHAATH [Manoj Bajpai, Tabu] in the past, doesn’t think so. “I watched THE NAMESAKE to check if the stories were similar, but they aren’t. In THE NAMESAKE, the families already reside in the U.S., but in TIGER IN THE WOODS, the parents travel from Bhatinda in India to London and meet their son after a gap of thirteen years,” Akash informs me.

Please elaborate. “TIGER IN THE WOODS tells the journey of a guy who goes to London, marries an Indian born-and-settled girl there and calls his parents to live with him. The cultural differences that ensue form the premise of the film. Both the parties -- the parents and the daughter-in-law and her parents -- are right in their stance. How they bridge the gap forms the crux of the story. There’s a strong bond between the parents and their son in my film,” Akash reveals.

Produced by Akashdeep and Kumar Mohan jointly, TIGER IN THE WOODS will be shot for 15 days in Punjab and another 25 days in U.K. “Hopefully, we plan to start filming by 16th July,” he states. What’s the cast like? “For the parents’ role, we’ve finalized Anupam Kher and Dimple Kapadia already. We’re in talks with various actors for the other crucial roles,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Akash and Kumar have signed choreographer Saroj Khan to direct a film called SATI – A BURNING DESIRE TO LIVE. There’s talk that the producers are toying with the idea of signing Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen and Priyanka Chopra for the three principal roles.

“We haven’t approached Ash, but we may approach Sushmita and Priyanka. Makrand Deshpande, who’s writing the script, is working on the third draft currently. We’ll approach the stars once we’re through with the writing,” Akash reveals.
