Hemant Hegde, the director who will make his foray in Hindi cinema with the small budget film Khanna & Iyer coming from the banner of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Mukta Tele Media’ has his hands full even before his debut film releases.
Hegde has been signed to make a silent comedy for Adlabs after Khanna and Iyer. He is a Bangalore based filmmaker who has directed three Kannada films earlier. He was an actor before he turned director.
Speaking about his silent film, Hegde says, “The film has been tentatively titled as Sound Please. Since it’s a silent film there will not be any dialogue in the movie.” But aren’t dialogues an important element to evoke laughter in a silent film? Hemant reverts saying, “That’s the USP of my film; rather it’s a challenge to show comedy without dialogues. It is my own concept, which has to be developed into a full length one hour fifty minute movie. Adlabs is presenting this movie for AGM films.”
What is the film about? “It’s a universal subject. It’s about a guy, who comes to Mumbai to make it big in life and how Mumbai treats him at first and after getting adapted to the city how he treats Mumbai afterwards. It’s a very good subject and the greatest challenge for me is that it should look as if there is no requirement of dialogues in the film. It should not look like a deliberate attempt on keeping the characters silent.”
So who will we see in Sound Please? “We have not yet finalized the star cast. We are trying for Arshad Warsi in the male lead and for the female lead we are considering Lara Dutta and Vidya Balan. Apart from that there will be eighteen characters in the movie. After Khanna and Iyer I’ll start working on this film. It will go on floor mostly in July.”
And that’s not all. Hemant Hegde has also signed a contract with Mukta Arts. “I am in contract for three films with Mukta Arts but I am not bound. So I can work with other producers as well”, confirms the lucky director.
