Big B, Jackie and Boman do their own stunt in Eklavya

Bollywood actors have always been known to use doubles for challenging stunts in action movies. But with Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan doing action sequences all by themselves, more and more actors are being encouraged to follow suit.
Almost all the actors in the film Eklavya – The Royal Guard, have insisted on doing their own stunts in the film. Amitabh Bachchan (who plays the lead), Jackie Shroff and Boman Irani have insisted that they do not need doubles for any of their stunts. As a result of this decision, the sets of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s action packed flick have experienced many thrilling and exhilarating moments during the shoot.
For Amitabh Bachchan especially, it was an exciting schedule with nail biting scenes being filmed on him. Inspite of Mr. Bachchan’s known fear of fire (he had suffered severe burns on his right hand in an accident in the past), he insisted on doing a risky scarf burning scene. He declined Vinod’s suggestion of using a stunt double. During another action sequence, he nearly ended up getting stamped on the head by a camel. But the composed actor said that it is totally understandable that the balance and timings of action sequences can go wrong. But this was pretty unexpected, and thankfully, the turban that he had worn saved him.
Boman Irani ended up getting nearly hit by a bullet and Jackie Shroff almost missed being hit by a moving train while doing his action sequence! Irani said that Tinnu Verma was supposed to shoot the bullet away from his face but the bullet hit the frame of the window where the actor was standing. Boman was not hurt but was mortified by the experience!
With so many gripping incidents taking place while shooting, it seems like Eklavya- The Royal Guard will turn out to be an exciting film. The movie is slated for release on 16th February 2007.
