Mira Nair will direct Johnny Depp in Shantaram

This is one of the hottest news today. Last year, Warner Bros. had announced that Johnny Depp was to star in film adaptation of Gregory David Roberts's novel Shantaram. The film was then to be directed by Peter Weir, but he later opted out of the project. However, now, Mira Nair has been finalized to direct the film. The film will be co produced by Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp.
Shantaram will be shot extensively, in Mumbai and also in Australia and North America. Eric Roth is writing the script of the film. Mira Nair however, is currently working on a small budget film which deals with the issue of AIDS. The film stars Shiney Ahuja, Raima Sen and Irrfan Khan.
