Raj Sippy plans remakes!

Veteran Raj Sippy, who has worked with A-list stars like Big B, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna, is planning to remake two films. While the first film [SATTE PE SATTA] was directed by Sippy himself and starred Big B in dual roles, the second [CHUPKE CHUPKE] was produced by his father N.C. Sippy and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
In a candid conversation with this writer, Sippy confessed that the remake of SATTA PE SATTA will be titled SEVEN. Besides the title, there’s going to be one more change -- the plot won’t revolve around seven brothers, but five brothers and two sisters. The role essayed by Big B in the original might be essayed by Sanjay Dutt in the new version. “I am thinking of casting Sanju, but let me add I haven’t spoken to him yet,” Sippy enlightens.
Please elaborate. “SATTE PE SATTA was a fabulous comedy [I agree!] and I don’t want to tamper it. But when you cater to a contemporary audience, you need to make slight changes. Even though the remake will star five brothers and two sisters, their behavioral pattern [ruggedness, not bathing for days et al] will remain the same,” Sippy divulges.
The casting of the film is still undecided. “I’ll decide on the names once Sanju agrees to come on board. But I do have a wish-list for the remaining roles. I’d like to cast Arshad Warsi and Ritesh Deshmukh in the film. Their timing is excellent, both have a natural flair for comedy,” Sippy adds.
On the other hand, the remake of CHUPKE CHUPKE will star a younger set of actors. “I am not looking at middle-aged actors. I’d love to cast Emraan Hashmi and Ritesh Deshmukh in principal roles. Emraan hasn’t attempted something like this earlier. Also, he’s got the ability and talent to pull off a comic role. For Om Prakash-ji’s character, I think Boman Irani would be the apt choice. Right now, everything is in the planning stages though,” he discloses.
Meanwhile, Sippy is looking forward to the release of three films -- MR. KHUJLI [in February/March], JIMMY [also in February/March] and THE MURDERR [April].
