This week we see the release of the Sonakshi Sinha starrer AKIRA. Directed by AR. Murugadoss of GHAJINI fame, the film promises to be an all-out action packed entertainer with Sonakshi doing some high octane action and fight sequences. But will the film capture the audiences' attention is the question.
Reports suggest that AKIRA that has recorded a 15% occupancy rate during morning shows has got off to a sluggish start. However, with little to no competition coming in from other smaller releases AKIRA is expected to fare better as the weekend progresses. Similarly, the Hollywood releases DON'T BREATHE and SKIPTRACE that features Jackie Chan have also opened on slow notes. While the horror - thriller DON'T BREATHE will cater to a niche audience the Chan starrer SKIPTRACE that was initially touted to give AKIRA a bit of competition is expected to pick up but will not affect AKIRA.
On the whole, though the weekend will clearly be dominated by Sonakshi Sinha's AKIRA, the film may face a hard time enticing audiences to theatres, and will have to rely on positive word of mouth from of the audience. On the other hand the other smaller Bollywood releases that have little to no appeal will have to depend on positive audience feedback to post decent box office numbers.
