All predictions made around the first day box office collections of Spider-Man: No Way Home have been slaughtered, and how. It was mentioned in this very column that the film could end up taking an opening of Rs. 15-18 crores and that too, by the way, would have been huge. However, what actually happened on the very first day of release was something that was beyond all expectations and predictions.
Released on Thursday, the film ended up collecting to the tune of Rs. 32.67 crores which is almost double of what would have been a good number, and that too on the higher end of the spectrum. While there were no doubts around the kind of craze that the film was carrying, one has to give full credit to the marketing team of the film in India which totally turned around the fortunes one week before the release. A master stroke was played in the form of advance booking for premium screens to begin with and once news spread about those going houseful, the entire nation knew that something big was in the anvil.
Call it FOMO but suddenly the advance booking was abuzz around Spider-Man: No Way Home and facts and figures started floating around in a viral manner, hence resulting in houseful shows from the start of the day itself. Result? A blockbuster start for the superhero film which should now cross Rs. 100 crores during its extended four-day weekend itself. What has to be seen now is how far does the film go from here before 83 arrives next Friday. Rest assured, it’s total would be humongous for sure.
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
