The Karan Malhotra directorial Shamshera was released yesterday. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor the film was expected to open on a thunderous note. However, contrary to expectations the film took off to a tepid start with less than appreciative critic reviews and low-key audience appreciation. In fact, despite the massive 4350 screen count, Shamshera managed to rake in just Rs. 10.25 cr on opening day. Now on its second day running the film has seen a slight increase in collections from Day 1.
In this box office report, we look at the second-day collections of Shamshera while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting Rs. 10.50 cr, Shamshera has emerged as the eighth highest second-day grosser of 2022. Leading the list of highest second-day grossers are previous releases like K.G.F - Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 42.90 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 24 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 18.34 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 13.32 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 12.60 cr, Jugjugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 12.55 cr, and Bachchhan Paandey which had collected Rs. 11.50 cr. But, the business of Shamshera does manage to surpass other releases like The Kashmir Files which collected Rs. 8.50 cr, and Heropanti 2 which had collected Rs. 5.50 cr. On the other hand, when compared to non-dubbed, Hindi releases, Shamshera ranks as the sixth highest second-day grosser.
Going forward, Shamshera which continues to run in theatres is expected to see a slight increase on its third day running. With little to no competition at the box office, the film which has been underperforming consistently is likely to see its Day 3 collections hovering in the same range.
