The Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera which hit screens last week on Friday has been underperforming at the box office. Directed by Karan Malhotra the film which was touted to open on a high note, saw its collections rake in just Rs. 10.25 cr on opening day. Following this, the film which also features Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor continued to remain unimpressive at the box office.
In this box office report, we look at the opening weekend collections of Shamshera while comparing the same to previous release of 2022. Collecting Rs. 31.75 cr, Shamshera has now emerged as the eighth highest opening weekend grosser of 2022. Contrary to expectations Shamshera which collected Rs. 31.75 cr manages to surpass previous releases like, The Kashmir Files which collected Rs. 27.15 cr, and Heropanti 2 which had collected Rs. 16 cr. However, the business of the film does not manage to compete with other releases like KGF - Chapter 2, which collected Rs. 193.99 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 75.57 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 55.96 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 39.40 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 39.12 cr, Jugjugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 36.93 cr, and Bachchhan Paandey which had collected Rs. 36.17 cr.
Going forward, trade predictions indicate a rather bleak picture for the business of the film. Despite the immense promotions and hype, Shamshera is expected to see similarly low-key collections over the subsequent weekdays.
