Since over a decade, Ranveer Singh has made a name for himself as one of the prominent star actors in mainstream Bollywood, with success of films like Band Baaja Baaraat, Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Simmba, etc. But the actor went into a quiet phase last year with the box office failures of Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus. But it seems that the actor has bounced back with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which hit the theatres on July 28.
The movie, which stars Alia Bhatt opposite Ranveer, is garnering good word-of-mouth and reviews. This has ensured that it has had a good weekend of Rs 45.90 crores. This is the sixth highest opening weekend ever for a Ranveer starrer.
The first film in the list is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster Padmaavat with a huge number of Rs 114 crores. Rohit Shetty’s cop entertainer Simmba holds the second place with an impressive Rs 75.11 crores. This is followed by Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela (Rs 52.75 crores), Kabir Khan’s cricket drama 83 (Rs 47 crores) and the third Bhansali film in the list Bajirao Mastani (Rs 46.77 crores) on the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Also starring Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani still has a long way to go at the box office. The movie has 12 clear days to earn as much as it can before the two biggies Gadar 2 and OMG 2 release on August 11.
