Ram Setu’s overseas business likely to end around 1 mil. USD; Akshay Kumar’s overseas box office graph sees a steady downward spiral post pandemic

The much talked about and keenly anticipated Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu was released last week on Tuesday. Thanks to the festive holiday of Diwali trade predictions stated that the film would open on a thunderous note. However, contrary to expectations, Ram Setu opened to a tepid response from the audience in both the domestic and overseas markets. In fact, though the domestic market saw a decent spate of collections, in the overseas territories the business of the film has been rather lacklustre.

Ram Setu's overseas business likely to end around 1 mil. USD; Akshay Kumar’s overseas box office graph sees a steady downward spiral post pandemic

In this box office report, we look at the overseas collections of Ram Setu while comparing the same to previous Akshay Kumar films that have released. Shockingly, despite the hype and promotions around Ram Setu the film has emerged as one of Akshay Kumar’s lowest grossing releases in the overseas markets. Collecting just USD 650K over its extended opening weekend, predications state that the business of the film could expect a lifetime collection of USD 1 million that will stand as Akshay’s lowest till date post Covid. In fact, when compared to the actor’s previous releases, only the Rohit Shetty directorial Sooryavanshi was able to make an impact. Collecting USD 8.3 million, the film towers above the rest of Akshay Kumar’s recent releases.

Akshay Kumar’s Post-pandemic releases in overseas

Sooryavanshi - 8.3 mil. USD

Bachchhan Paandey - 1.80 mil. USD

Samrat Prithviraj - 1.20 mil. USD

Raksha Bandhan - 1.10 mil. USD

Ram Setu - 1 mil. USD [lifetime expected]

If that was not enough, when compared to Akshay’s releases before the Covid-19 pandemic, the actor’s overseas collections graph has been seeing a steady downward spiral. Except for Sooryavanshi, which had collected USD 8.3 million, the collections in overseas markets of his new releases seem to be touching a new low and plateauing between 1 to 2 mil. USD mark. In fact, a quick glance at Akshay’s pre-pandemic releases depicts a more optimistic business trend.

Akshay Kumar’s Pre-pandemic releases in overseas

Good Newwz - 10.41 mil. USD

Housefull 4 - 6.86 mil. USD

Mission Mangal - 7.28 mil. USD

Kesari - 3.60 mil. USD

As of now, Ram Setu continues to run in theatres; however, predictions state that the business of the film is unlikely to see much growth. Going further with new releases set to hit screens, trade opines that the business of Ram Setu is all but done with in the overseas markets.
