Makers of Bad Boy likely to lose more than 90% of their investment after its disastrous performance at the box office

The recently released Rajkumar Santoshi directorial Bad Boy featuring veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi Chakraborty, Amrin Qureshi, and Darshan Jariwala seems to have gotten lost at the box office. The film, which marked the debut of Namashi was well-promoted in the run-up to its release, however, the buzz around the film failed to translate into box office numbers. Now after nearly a week at the box office, Bad Boy has not really managed to meet expectations. In this special report, we look at the estimated box office collections of Bad Boy in its first week while positioning the same against its cost of production to gain an understanding of how profitable the film was for its makers.

Makers of Bad Boy likely to lose more than 90% of their investment after its disastrous performance at the box office

After a dismal opening, which saw the film draw in Rs. 10 lakhs on Day 1, the collections of Bad Boy continued to remain low-key. Thanks to this lackluster start at the box office estimates state that the film is likely to end its first week with a collection of approximately Rs. 50 lakhs only. Made on a budget of Rs. 15 cr, Bad Boy is highly unlikely to see further traction at the box office window resulting in a massive deficit. Compounding matters further the film was never released in the overseas market, thus eliminating a key revenue stream. With this disastrous box office performance, there will be no buyers for satellite and digital as well.

Given the current scenario, the producers of Bad Boy - Inbox Pictures Pvt. Ltd. have suffered heavy losses, in fact, the makers of the film stand to lose nearly 90% of their investment. As it stands now, this massive box office failure is being attributed to the fact that the film saw a reduction in shows across cinemas, while in certain locations, theatres even cancelled shows due to a lack of audience. If that was not enough, reports also state that some screens saw collections less than Rs. 1,000 coming in. This general audience disinterest in the film, coupled with competition from previous releases has had a disastrous effect on the business of Bad Boy.
