Given the fact that Chand Mera Dil is an urban romantic drama about mature relationships and is targeted primarily at urban youth, it was expected to take a fair opening and then set itself up for jumps over the weekend followed by stability during the weekdays to take it through. Anything in the range of Rs. 3-4 crores would have been a par number for the film since it has anyways been seen especially during last couple of years that bringing audiences in theatres has been a task indeed for more than 90% of the films.
The film actually opened within this range itself as Rs. 3.31 crores came in. Reduced ticket prices also had a role to play though that was primarily in the morning and afternoon. Reason being that at premium multiplexes - especially in the evening and night shows - this doesn’t really matter much as those visiting such properties can anyways afford to buy tickets at any price, whether it costs Rs. 200 or Rs. 400. However, at non-premium multiplexes, this strategy does come into play, and it has to be seen whether the film extends this offer in days to come as well, primarily during the weekdays, so that that segment of audiences which is conscious of its theatrical spends steps in as well in larger number.
Meanwhile, what this Lakshya and Ananya Panday starrer requires now are jumps starting from today. The film has been made at reasonable costs and good recovery has happened through other means as well (OTT, satellite, music). Still, when a film arrives theatrically then box office carries with it its own charm and this is where reasonable numbers in next couple of weeks would be looked at.
