Though Secret Superstar released on Thursday, its first full fledged day needs to be considered as Friday since this is when audiences were actually enticed to step out of their homes and venture into movies. True collections of any film would have been known only on Friday and that was exactly the case with the Aamir Khan starrer as well. Of course this also meant that there was competition from Ajay Devgn's Golmaal Again, and that was always going to be the case. Hence, Rs. 4.80 crore that came on Thursday was nothing but added bonus that you get from Paid Previews.
Coming to Friday numbers, there was an increment on expected lines as Rs. 9.30 crore came in. Though given the size of the release [1750 screens] and the showcasing [10-12-15 shows at major multiplexes] meant that there was potential to score more than Rs. 15 crore on its opening day itself. Hence numbers like these do make you feel that the release is much bigger than warranted since potential for a subject, genre and treatment like the kind which is seen in Secret Superstar could never have resulted in very huge numbers.
Nonetheless, the collections are as expected from a film which has Aamir Khan primarily in an extended special appearance, and basically revolves around a child actress [Zaira Wasim] who is just one film old. Word of mouth for the film is good which means it can continue to bring in fine numbers for rest of the weekend as well. However the fact also remains that there is huge competition from Golmaal Again which is going berserk and that would end up curtailing collections of Secret Superstar to an extent.
