After much talk and promotions, the Akshay Kumar starrer Samrat Prithviraj is coming up for release. Just weeks before hitting screens, the film made headlines for its title change, which added to the hype surrounding the film. Add to this, the buzz from the cast members promoting Samrat Prithviraj from every rooftop, and we have a recipe for success.
Going by estimates Samrat Prithviraj is expected to see an opening around the Rs. 10-11 cr. range, which incidentally is slightly lower than the recent release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. However, according to the data received by Bollywood Hungama, Samrat Prithviraj has sold around 17,000 tickets at PVR, Inox and Cinepolis as on Thursday morning. This is around less than half of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which had sold approximately, 45,000 tickets at the same properties on Thursday morning.
Despite this, trade predictions state that the film, which has seen Akshay Kumar relentlessly promoting the film, will see a good rate of spot booking which in turn will propel the business of the film. For Akshay this release is rather crucial since his last release Bachchhan Paandey did not really meet expectations at the box office.
Overall, for Samrat Prithviraj, spot bookings and word of mouth will need to play a crucial role for the movie to post higher than expected collections. Currently, the film is estimated to see an opening of around Rs. 10-11 cr, which incidentally is slightly lower than Bachchhan Paandey’s opening of Rs. 13.25 cr. But with the low key buzz and general audience curiosity for the film missing it remains to be seen whether Samrat Prithviraj surpasses expectations.
