In the midst of all the mayhem that is being seen in the Indian film scene at region, be it Bollywood or the south film industry, the sole shining spot has been Karthikeya 2. Not that the film has been an event affair like KGF: Chapter 2 or RRR, or a blockbuster earner like Pushpa, but still it is the only film which is at least earning and is profitable. Moreover, what sets it apart from the rest is that it has managed to earn this kind of status as a dark horse where entirely on the basis of audience word of mouth; it has found some bearings for itself.
Again, the word of mouth is also limited for a target audience since the film isn't doing exceedingly well from north to south, and west to east. It's doing well in pockets and that has allowed its overall score to reach Rs. 19.25 crores*. It has found some shows reserved for itself in the third week as well despite the arrival of Liger, and that should allow it to come close to the Rs. 25 crores mark in this week, with a chance to collect a few more crores before Brahmastra hits the screens on September 9.
Meanwhile, Dobaaraa has turned out to be a huge flop at the box office with a first week total of mere Rs. 3.85 crores*. There was no start for the film, no momentum gained, and no hold evidenced. It saw a flat trajectory to begin with and then saw a complete downfall in weekdays to follow, hence turning out to be a forgettable affair for all involved with the film, at least theatrically. The film will cross Rs. 4 crores lifetime, though that's about it. It could well have gained a better traction though had it released straight on OTT since it's a very digital friendly film.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
