The Saif Ali Khan – Rani Mukerji starrer Bunty Aur Babli 2 that released last week on Friday has been facing a tough time at the box office. After receiving less than appreciative reviews and rather negative audience feedback the business of the film took a drastic hit. In fact, Bunty Aur Babli 2 managed to draw in just Rs. 2.60 cr. on Day 1. Now after its opening weekend in theatres, the future prospects of the venture at the box office seem rather bleak.
Collecting a further Rs. 2.50 cr. on Saturday and Rs. 3.20 cr. on Sunday, Bunty Aur Babli 2 managed to post Rs. 8.30 cr. as its opening weekend collections. The lack of turnaround on its second day with a very minimal growth on the third day has nearly sealed the film’s box office fate. If that wasn’t enough, comparing the business of Bunty Aur Babli 2 to the first film in the franchise that was released 16 years back in 2005, it is evident that the new release has not lived up to its expectations.
In fact, Bunty Aur Babli that featured Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji managed to collect Rs. 2.68 cr. on Day 1 with an opening weekend total of Rs. 8.66 cr. back in 2005. On the other hand, Bunty Aur Babli 2 that boasted of a higher production budget managed to draw in just Rs. 8.30 cr., a fair amount lesser than what the first film in the franchise collected.
Looking at the current business trend, the fate of Bunty Aur Babli 2’s collections though the coming weekdays holds no hope of resurrection. The movie is likely to fold within the Rs. 15 cr. mark at the box office.
