TEZZ has not lived up to its title. It didn’t embark on a tezz start, nor was it tezz enough to knock down its opponent THE AVENGERS. So what went wrong? Why did it perform disastrously? You’d agree that a lot many inferior films have worked at the box-office, but TEZZ collapsed on the opening day itself. The presence of A-list stars like Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Kangna or reputed names such as director Priyadarshan and producer Ratan Jain/Venus, who are synonymous with qualitative films, failed to lure the audience.
Even before its release, the talk that TEZZ was low on hype and buzz had started doing the rounds of the industry. The promos weren’t exciting as well, a section of the industry opined. The out-in-the-open tiff between the makers over an item song sent out wrong signals, that something was terribly wrong with the film. A section of the industry also feels that Anil and Ajay didn’t promote the film to the optimum. Last but not the least, TEZZ had a strong opponent in the form of THE AVENGERS and the Hollywood biggie was expected to eat into its market share.
What came as a rude shock was the shockingly low start of TEZZ even at mass dominated centres, where action-based films generally fetch a potent start. The single screens were marginally better than plexes, but that’s no consolation. Overall, the film has been a complete downer and is sure to make a hole in the pockets of its investors.
On the other hand, VICKY DONOR is unstoppable at the box-office. Despite major oppositions like TEZZ and THE AVENGERS, the business of this low cost film remains unaffected at most centres, especially in North India. I am sure, this well-made film will continue to hold centre stage even in its third weekend, despite the much-awaited JANNAT 2 hitting the marquee.
