Certain films are 'red hot' within the industry. And as their release date draws closer, the speculation rises faster than mercury. The industry know-alls come up with all kinds of calculations vis-?is its opening, its first week billing, its overall business…
But the paying public may not necessarily show the same enthusiasm. TAARZAN THE WONDER CAR is a shining example of this statement.
Directed by the masters of thrillers Abbas-Mustan, TAARZAN THE WONDER CAR was expected to fetch a roaring initial. Industry watchers expected it be another KOI… MIL GAYA, but this wonder car ran out of fuel on its opening day itself.
What could we attribute the lackluster opening to?
- To start with, the promotion wasn't all that exciting. The producers may have spent a packet to promote the film, but the promos didn't compel the viewer to make a beeline to the nearest cinema hall screening this flick.
- Two, the name Tarzan is synonymous with a jungle hero. Those who've grown up on comic books and know all about the legendary hero, found the title a bit weird.
Even otherwise, the script of TAARZAN THE WONDER CAR wasn't engaging in entirety. Besides, the romantic track was far from mesmerizing. Vatsal and Ayesha came across as good friends, not passionate lovers.
The ticket window hasn't been kind to TAARZAN THE WONDER CAR. The film has neither fared well at most multiplexes, nor did it work at the single screens. In fact, its collections at several single screens in various circuits have been below par.
A section of the trade was expecting the film to pick up with word of mouth, but neither did the teenage crowd nor the school-going kids skip their schools and colleges to watch the film. Let's face it, the wonder car hasn't caught the fancy of the kids, like 'Jadoo' of KOI… MIL GAYA did.
All said, TAARZAN THE WONDER CAR was a novel idea that went unnoticed at the b.o. window!
