Call it a coincidence, the expression, Oh my God, is applicable to not just OMG - OH MY GOD!, but also KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL. Let me explain...
OH MY GOD!, which had a tepid start at the ticket window on Friday, gradually consolidated its position on Saturday and Sunday. The business on weekdays [Monday and Tuesday] is also fantastic. The growth in business has been superb, which has prompted many a producer/distributor to exclaim, 'Oh my God, OMG has truly picked up and how!' Conversely, the disastrous start and the pathetic business over the weekend of KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL must've led many to scream, 'Oh my God, this one's a true-blue disaster.'
OMG had an edge over KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL and this was known to all and sundry. The presence of Akshay Kumar in an extended appearance, the terrific promotions, the positive buzz [big screen adaptation of a much loved play]... everyone was confident OMG would take the lead. But no one expected KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL to be an unmitigated disaster. In fact, not only does KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL rank amongst Priyadarshan's weakest films, it is also the biggest setback of his career, as far as Hindi movies are concerned.
KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL could have fared marginally better if it didn't clash with OMG. But looking at the crammed release chart, a producer should celebrate if he gets a solo release these days. Also, in the week gone by, both OMG and KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL were affected due to Ganeshotsav festivities and also cricket matches, especially the one between India and Pakistan on Sunday. In retrospect, OMG had withstood the storms, while KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL has been a non-starter.
