The last quarter of 2010 is about to begin and there's tremendous excitement within the industry. Why not? Have a look at the Release Dates section and I am sure, you heart will start beating faster. The biggest of films, with impressive names on and off screen, are associated with these films. Naturally then, the quarter is crucial for not just those associated with these films, but for the well-being of the industry as well.
From Rajnikant to Ranbir Kapoor, from Akshay Kumar to Ajay Devgn, from Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan to Imran Khan, the final quarter of 2010 is choc-a-bloc with soooo many films. Even the number of low cost/medium range films slated for release in these three months is more than the usual. Well, the viewer has a wide variety to choose from. It's like going to a toy store and finding so many choices there.
Every year, the last quarter throws a number of surprises and since Diwali and Christmas fall in this quarter, the business is optimum in these months. The flip side of having so many releases is that any and every film will have to hit a boundary in its opening week itself, else its chances of staying on the pitch will be remote with the arrival of a new competitor next week. Also, the star power will play a crucial role in these months. If the film is able to lure audiences in hordes, well, the actor in question will be eulogized by one and all. But a slip up may harm him like never before.
As for me, I am an eternal optimist and will place my bet on every film that would hit the screens from October 1 onwards. Let's not forget, there's nothing called big or small film. It's the junta janardhan that makes the film big or small, depending on how they take to its content.
The countdown has begun. On your marks, get set, go...
