Now this one is supposed to be big. Really BIG! And why not? After all Jodhaa Akbar has: a) Ashutosh Gowarikar's labor of love finally getting ready to be unveiled after going through grueling shooting schedules, b) Hrithik and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan coming together again after Dhoom 2, albeit in a different avatar, c) A.R. Rahman and Javed Akhtar saab collaborating with Ashutosh for the third straight time after Lagaan and Swades and d) A true historical being brought to celluloid after ages. Write your own music review of Jodhaa Akbar No wonder, everything about this film is expected to be flawless and studied to the minutest details. This is why one looks at the music with great expectations. However, it all turns out to be anticipation in vain as Jodhaa Akbar turns out to be the first major disappointment of 2008. In the praise of Shahenshah Akbar comes the opening track 'Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah'. High on orchestra, the track has ‘grand’ written all over it and deserves an opulent treatment to it. Crooned by Mohammed Aslam, Bonnie Chakraborty and Chorus, the track hails Akbar for creating an empire where there is peace, harmony, and great life all around. The song doesn't belong to the kind which could be sung around or played loud at home but would do well when seen on the big screen, provided the picturisation is as lavish as Rahman's efforts. Javed Ali, who has been trying to make his mark over last 3-4 years, gets a big break in the form of 'Jashn-E-Bahaaraa'. Sounding quite close to Sonu Nigam, Javed does well in his rendition of this slow track that is in complete contrast to 'Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah' in its treatment. Javed Akhtar saab's poetry is in full flow for this love song which comes close to the style of 60’s in it's tune and flow. However, one misses the kind of punch as expected from the first romantic song of the album and the final outcome turns out to be little lackluster with not much in the song pulling a listener for a repeat hearing. Towards the album's end, a 'Flute Instrumental' version of the song is heard as well, which works better as a core background piece which could be enjoyed with lights switched off. Kashif written 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' is a devotional track, which is strictly for Rahman fans. Rendered by Rahman himself, it has the kind of arrangements as heard in 'Kehna Hi Kya' [Bombay]. With minimal instruments in play, 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' has its strength lying in it's lyrics but that too has minimal target audience due to the track's genre and setting. Overall, a situational piece that seems like an unlikely candidate to make much headway into current crop of audience. An 'Oboe Instrumental' piece for the same track comes at the album's end and yet again has the kind of treatment, which hardly promises a popular reach out. 'In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein' that comes later turns out to be most laidback of all and just doesn't ignite the kind of spark that one had been hunting for in this soundtrack so far. It's one thing to be slow and another to be just plain and simple drag (if boring is too harsh a word here)! By this time, one seriously starts wondering if Rahman was asked to work on the album really-really hard or did he actually finish the job in a jiffy? In spite of presence of Sonu Nigam and Madhushree, the song just doesn't click at all and in the end what one gets to hear is a number which fails to impress and ends without making any impression. On the lines of 'O Paalan Haari' [Lagaan] (genre wise) comes 'Mann Mohanaa’, which is yet, another devotional track after 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja'. This time around, it is Bela Shinde's turn to sing a number for Lord Krishna as the character of Jodha played by Aishwarya Rai turns over to God. Just like the rest of the album, this one too doesn't go any further than being ordinary and ends without creating any place in the heart (or the music collection) of the listener. Special attraction of the music album of Jodhaa Akbar is a bonus DVD that includes a 4-minute long theatrical trailer of the film along with a few posters, story and cast and crew details of the film The album kicks off well with a high adrenalin title song but beyond that there isn't much to look forward to. Jodhaa Akbar would work with a miniscule segment of audience and that too only in certain big cities. It is expected to take a good start at the stands due to high credentials involved but a sustained stay at the charts may only be possible only if the film is a success. Jodhaa Akbar disappoints, and how! Though the music of Lagaan was good (catching on more after the film's success), Swades was always a few steps behind. However, Jodhaa Akbar does not have much to cheer about and fails to go an extra distance.

The most awaited film’s soundtrack kicks off with Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah (Marhaba O Marhaba). What a way to start this magnum album. The song is hummable and quite catchy even with its rustic and earthy feeling. It’s huge; it’s grand and definitely pulsating. The song catches your attention. It’s a song which immediately takes you back to the era gone by. You also want to be a part of the celebrations and offer your Nazarana to the Emperor and his better half. The song is backed with strong & graceful lyrics. MARHABA ! A sure shot chartbuster! In the second track, the album shifts gears and takes you in a different planet. “In Lahmo Ke” takes you to the world of the two long lost lovers. The song is dipped neck deep in passion and it just simply takes your breath away. As the song proceeds, shivers run down your spine. Sonu Nigam once again proves that why he is called the best singer in the country. Madhushree supports him and she excels too. The lyrics are breathtaking and you feel curious about the happenings in the song. The song perfectly depicts the love and passion in the hearts of the lovers. You also want to witness the king and queen’s golden moments together….obviously a silent witness that is! The third track is an instrumental track. It’s Jashan-e-baharaa’s instrumental version. The main organ used here is a flute. And just as all the mice of the village swayed with the Pied Piper, I am sure we all too will adore this one. It’s calm and intense. Occasional use of high octave tunes which is not available in the original. Finally, “Jashan-e-baharaa” makes its appearance. Its honey coated and makes a place in your heart instantly. The desires of the lover, his inner turmoil, the thousand questions in his heart and his longing for his sweetheart are perfectly displayed. In this song there is no disco in the dil of the lover and yet it portrays his loneliness perfectly. Javed Akhtar hits the bull’s eye once again. Javed Ali is a singer to watch out for. His voice has that spark which will take him far. Pure unadulterated music and low pitched orchestra. No use of huge, flashy voices, yet a winner. The song throws some visuals in your mind, at once you listen to it and for me if a song succeeds in doing that then it’s a winner. You want to pray to God for the lover and hope that he wins over his beloved quickly. A must-must have song. Did I just saw Romeos singing this song for their begums or Juliets? Now, comes the king of them all, “Khwaja-mere-Khwaja.” It’s not a run of the mill commercial qawalli. It’s a qawalli in every true sense. It has that slight Persian touch to it. The lyrics are simply awesome and so sensible. It’s unhurried pace is simply breathtaking. ARR simply proves that he is genius. His voice has that raw appeal which makes you fall in love with the song. The song immediately stays alive in your memory without having to listen to it for thousand times. By the time the song ends, you connect with that super power somewhere. Then you realize that, AR Rahman is truly a “Allah ka Banda!” The sound track ends with a bhajan. “Manmohana” a religious song of Rajputs, which is sung by Bela Shinde talks about Radha-Krishna. The singer is a great find and carries the song with great élan. The song may not become popular with the youth of today but surely will be a hit with the senior citizens. It’s a different song, and surely will get well with the movie. It will be helpful for all the students of classical music for years to come! Overall, Jodhaa-Akbar is a pleasant (and a much needed) break from today’s music which has nothing to do with a thing called quality. A happy, bright spot for all the genuine music lovers. An honest attempt, and surely has its heart in the right place. Jodhaa Akbar’s music is like the kiss principle, “Keep it simple and you will enjoy it.” It’s simple and elegant, yet manages to stay with you. It’s something that provides you with what it promises, sheer magic!

Jodhaa Akbar music is melodious, divine, and takes you to a different world or may be this place is what is called as Heaven!!! Such a Heavenly music by AR Rahman!!! As for as Mr. Joginder's review, I would like to tell one thing - "Music Speaks! Statements don't!!!". Jodhaa Akbar music is an opportunity for Joginder to acquire himself a sense of real music. I wish he uses this opportunity well, else, he might well become a strong loser! I haver written the above to the editor as well!

I am not too sure if Joginder would be reading the user reviews posted in this forum. If he does, then he'd surely go clean his ears first and then listen to the tracks of Jodha Akbar once again. If this music and movie was released, distributed and produced by Yash Raj, I am 100% sure that Joginder and Indiafm.com (not to forget Taran Adarsh) would have given this movie and music a 5 star rating. khair.. movie has not released yet... lets talk about the music.. no music director in india other than Sir AR Rahman can take the liberty to only use a handful of instruments to compose such awesome tracks in any movie. The title song is dominated by drums and a simple orchestra. what a way to begin the album. You could feel that King Akbar has arrived!! The love track by Sonu Nigam is again a masterpiece. What people dont understand is the variety. Am sure we have never heard such a different track for a love song.. As I said, you need guts to implement something like this and only Sir Rahman has the confidence to take such liberty. Same with Khwaja ji song, and Jashn-e-bahara.. Those who felt Mann Mohana was boring, please listen to the song again and focus on the kind of orchestra Rahman has used.. never tried before.. the arrangement is just perfect for a period movie that deals with Medieval India and yet relates well to the pure audience of current India. With Jodha Akbar, Rahman-Javed-Ashuthosh combo has given us an absolute gem of a music which is at times on par with the Rahman-Gulzaar-Mani Ratnam combination.. I prefer the latter though :).. Back to Mr. Joginder.. I feel for u buddy.. only because you just dont seem to have the mindset to differentiate brilliance (Rahman) from mediocre (HR, Anu Malik, and new copy cat Pritam) ***** Cant wait for Ghajini Remake, and Main Yuvraj

I completely disagree with Jogindar & Taran. Jodhaa Akbar music is very good. I really enjoyed every track. "Jashn-e-Baaraa" Is full of melody. Javed Akhtar lyrics is brillant, & Javed Ali did a good job with his vocals. What can I say about A.R. Rehman, he is a genius. He did work hard in trying to keep the compostions to fit the 16th century. The songs have to appeal to today time. When Mugal-E-AZAM was made, I'm pretty sure Nausad had to do the same thing to make those classic songs of his w/Lata to fit that time. Anyway Jodhha Akbar doesn't Dissapoint.
