Just got back from the first day 4th show of DON. I really was'nt prepared for it because I thought the movie would release the next week here in Dubai because of Ramadan. But I received an email from the cinema I have subscribed to in the morning saying that DON has been released. As soon as I found out I called to check if there were tickets available but unfortunately there were only front row seats available. To hell with that...I ran to the cinema and bought my ticket for the show for which the front row seats were available. Bought a packet of chips, cola and some candy bars and got cozy in my seat to have a blast! I must admit that even though I knew SRK's movies are always the best i still had my doubts about the film after Farhan's previous Lakshya. But once the movie got over, while leaving the cinema like always I once more remembered that it's SRK who always makes the film work no matter what director. For starters, i'll just say that the movie is a hardcore entertainer, something i've been dying for in the recent times. I was disappointed with KANK, which is why I din't even write a review on it. But this movie just completely made up for it. The movie started off great. I won't mention how in this review. But it really was a great way to start off a film like DON. The beginning half an hour and the climax are hands down the best moments in DON. I don't think I should mention the actual story of the film as it'll give away too much. Yes, it is partially a remake of the original don, but not completely. So whoever thinks that they know what they're in for think again, I'll bet you don't know what you're in for. Atleast not till the intermission. I wont lie, the movie's pace did slow down just a notch towards the end of the first hour but then once the story actually takes off it's just one hell of a roller-coaster ride. It's not that there's just a twist at the climax. There's unexpected surprises even before that. The movie just had it's own different style and look. I'm pretty sure many are expecting it to be hollywood style but that is untrue. It is not a rip off of any hollywood action sequences nor does it have the typical bollywood feel except for once or twice. The movie has it's own very unique feel for which I think the credit mainly goes to the editing, the location and the screenplay. I was afraid that the editor might get carried away with the film's style and have horrible transitions between scenes like Ek Ajnabi (which was also shot in malaysia) did. But no, the film has been put together just right. When you leave the cinema everything about the film just feels right. Towards the second half of the film people will think some sequences din't make sense but it will all make sense in the end. It is a very smart film and requires patience to get the audience into a grip, which I think is the best thing about DON. This is hands down Farhan's best work so far. I'm not being biased just because i'm an SRK fan. I absolutely loved Dil Chahta Hai but I genuinely think this is his best work so far. It can easily be made out that a lot of time and effort has been spent on every step of production. Pre-production, production and post production, all have been organized rightfully and it is clearly made out. Otherwise it is just impossible to make a film like DON within the time that the film has actually been made. The cinematography is excellent. Bollywood has got this annoying habit of always showing unnecessary establishment shots of the foreign locations they shoot at. I have always noticed this and was very glad that it was'nt the same case with DON. They have used malaysian locations only because the movie needed to be set there. It lends a big hand in the whole look and feel of DON and you don't realise that till you give it a thought once the movie is over. I loved the colors of the film. I usually have complaints regarding why movies don't spend proper time on color correction. DON shows what a big difference color correction can make to the overall feel of the film. It has this excellent high contrasted and a decrease in saturation look. This personally made me very happy as i'm always critical about such small things. But i'm very happy to say that i'm just all praise about the film, visually as well as technically. The dialogues were nice. Not really clapworthy but the problem was that they gave the best dialogues only to SRK. They should've penned good dialogues for all characters but they were just good. But it was still great because some of shahrukh's one liners were brilliant. Especially his trademark "Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai". The songs were absolutely magical on the big screen. My favourite's being Main Hoon Don and Khaike Paan Banaraswala. These 2 were exceptional. Yeh mera dil was nice too but it was a bit too sudden i think. The don theme and Don Revisited kept on playing every now and then in different tempo's adding to a great background score. But Main Hoon Don looked so grand on the big screen. Girls are sure to drool during this one. Whereas I loved SRK's energy in Khaike which was also brilliantly choreographed. Coming to the performances, do i really need to mention how great SRK is? His performance literally plays with your mind. First as the dangerous Don, he is so evil and so arrogant that you just feel like punching him in the face! His dialogues really terrify his enemy, and he really gets to you but the enemy has no option but to shup up and obey, or else "Don ki sabse badi galti hai ki woh Don ka dushman hai". Whew, a really stubborn, arrogant and evil Don. then there's the lovable Vijay who's dialogue delivery and actions just always end up putting a smile on your face. Like I mentioned before, his performance really plays games with your mind. You'll know what i mean once you watch the film. 2 great SRK's essaying their characters with such deliverance, that you'll literally not be able to love one character more than the other. I guarantee that. And you'll see what I actually mean only after the movie ends. Priyanka chopra looks unbelievably hot and enacts her part competently. Isha koppikar is hardly there and is okay whenever she appears. Boman Irani is brilliant! Loved his character and loved his acting even more. Hope to see a lot more of him with SRK in the future. Kareena Kapoor delivers not as an actor, but as a dancer and as a glamour figure. Not much is expected of her acting and she does just fine. Arjun Rampal tried his best to make a mark between such a huge cast and I think he played his role with honesty. he did not try to show as if he's a very important figure in the film and it worked best for him. Overall, I think DON comes like a storm and completely blows you away in a time when bollywood has really hungered an entertainer like such for a long time now. The special effects were A Grade and the stunts and action sequences are the kind not seen in bollywood before. They have not been blown out of proportion like some of the recent releases because they din't get too carried away with the technology. I feel very proud to say that it is a sure shot blockbuster and it is an all out winner for me. The script is strong, the story is great, the pace is packed within 2 hrs and 45 mins and SRK's performance is just ....He has approached a different style of acting for this one compared to his other action/comedy roles and it works, it really does. I'm surely going to watch it atleast 2-3 times more in the cinema and am definitely going to buy the DVD for repeat viewing. Seriously guys, get ready for DON, build up your expectations, because DON is only going to surpass them.Don't go to the cinemas expecting a classic, go expecting a non stop entertainer. And if anytime midway during the movie you get worried as to where the film is going, just hold on till the end. It is sure to blow you away. A great movie with a great script, performance and climax. 10/10 (not biased, my personal and genuine thoughts)

Don !!! This single word has mesmerised hindi movie fans for the whole of the past decade and continues to do so till date ..... Don - The Chase Begins, in the words of the makers is a tribute to the old or rather the original Don, but in my opinion is the beginning of an era of remakes .... With a couple of cult movies like Sholay and classics like Umrao Jaan being remade, Don being the first of its kind, wanders off into an unknown territory, where noone has been in hindi cinema before, the territory of remakes .... In the past few months Don has generated quite a bit of hysteria amongst the original Don fans, which is expected as SRK - The King Khan steps into the shoes of Amitabh Bacchan - The Legend ..... And as we all know SRK can't ever quite fit into Bacchan's shoes both physically and on screen, a fact which is reiterated in this movie.... Now lets get to the details of the movie ... Does the new Don live up to the expectations ??? Does the movie match up to the original ??? I am afraid that in both the cases the negatives overshadow the positives .. Now let me explain why ...... Don as in the original in this movie is also a dreaded criminal who has been evading the police for many years now and is on the wanted list of virtually the who's who of the international police ... The movie starts off in a stylish way in Paris with a shot of SRK in a coffee shop answering the phone mouthing the word DON ...With this word you embark on a journey that shows promise in the beginning but falters as the movie progresses... .The movie after a well shot fight sequence, then shifts base to KL in Malaysia where the story starts unfolding .... As cop Desilva ( Boman Irani ) is briefing the Malaysian police we find out that one Mr .Singhania and Mr. Vardhaan are two wanted crimianals who have been working for a drug trafficker Boris .... As Boris chooses Singhania to be his successor Vardhaan eliminates Boris and has been absconding ever since.... Also the police has photos of Singhania but Vardhaan remains a faceless criminal .... Don is the brain that runs the show for Singhania from Malaysia and in the words of Desilva is the most dreaded criminal yet .... Narang is one of the close associates of Don and Anita (Isha Koppikar) is the Don's female interest in the movie ... In the beginning we see Ramesh being murdered by Don for having wanted to leave Don's syndicate ..... Kamini ( Kareena Kapoor ) happens to be his fiancee and Roma (Priyanka Chopra) happens to be his sister .... Kamini tries to get Don captured by playing a temptress and enticing him into her web but unfortunately she too dies realising one thing that "Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai" .... As the movie progresses we find out that by staging an event Roma enters Don's crime syndicate and awaits the right oppurtunity to have her revenge .... Unfortunately Don gets captured after a car chase during a drug deal in India and gets badly injured .... Desilva hatches a plan to keep Don alive under sedatives and convinces his lookalike Vijay to take his place promising him that a boy called Dipu who lost is mother(Sushma Reddy) and got seperated from his father Jasjit(Arjun Rampal) in a tragedy, will be looked after and will be provided with the best of education .... Soon after Vijay undergoes some operations and training and is on his way to KL where he is resuced by his associates in a bizzarely shot sequence which looks quite unbelievable and a tad bit ridiculous ... Vijay as Don according to Desilva's plan plays a Don sans memory and slowly as he starts gathering more information about Don, and slowly starts to regain his lost memory ....Soon we are led to the most awaited song in the movie Main Hoon Don which has been brilliantly shot and is one of the highlights of the film ... Realising that Don has regained his memory, Roma unaware of the truth accompanies Don on a deal with the intention to kill Don .... Only after a failed attempt does she realise that a lookalike called Vijay has actually taken the position of Don on the behest of cop Desilva, where Vijay hands over a cd containing the information about all the criminals Don is associated with to Desilva....Jasjit who has been put behind bars by Desilva is released from prison for a robbery he is forced to do during this time .... Jasjit seething with anger due to the death of his wife and loss of his son sets out to KL to kill Desilva .... But realises upon meeting Desilva that he is the only person who can lead him to his son and as a backup robs the cd from Desilva's house .... Soon after this we are led to song sequence wherein Singhania gets killed by Vardhaan( whose identity has not been revealed here as it as an integral part of the movie) and Don gets caught by the police and cop Desilva dies in an accident ... Now begins the chase as Don's associates find out that he is not the real Don and the cops believe that he is the real Don .... Unfortunately the only person aware of his identity is not alive anymore, Don finds himself in a bizzare mess where both Don's associates and the cops are gunning for his head ... Will Vijay be able to prove his innocence or will Vardhaan have the last laugh are the questions that are answered in the latter part of the second half .... Farhan Akhtar as a director has done an extremely good job and has shot some of the sequences with deft execution .... Unfortunately a slightly flawed script spoils the show for him ... As in the words of Don, " Ek gandi machli pure talaab ko kharaab kar deti hai " ..... The locales are exotic and the visuals are stunning ... It is an extremely slick movie and hats off the director in this department .... Farhan does manage to engage the viewer in bits with his own twists to the tale...Although the buildup to the climax is not all that great the climax does take you unaware and is for me the highlight of the movie but again in my cinematic opinion the explanation he gives to the climax takes the punch out of it .... In the performance section SRK has done a good job although not an excellent one in playing Don immortalised by Amitabh Bacchan but falters while playing the character of Vijay.... His mannerisms as a Banarasi look forced and do not make for a pleasant viewing and so does the immortal song Khaike Pan Banaras Wala which looks totally out of place in this movie .... SRK's decent performance's credit goes to Farhan Akhtar as he has been able to keep the exaggerated mannerisms we have come to associate SRK with to a minimum in this movie although he is not devoid of them .... Boman Irani excels in his role and plays his character very well ... .Priyanka Chopra is suprisingly good and steps into Zeenat Aman's shoes with ease .... Arjun Rampal doesn't get much scope to act in this movie but does decent enough in this limited oppurtunity that he gets ... Om Puri as an Interpol Officer has been wasted since he doesnt exactly play the original role of Malik ... Kareena Kapoor is glamorous .... Isha Koppikar is decent .... On the whole the movie is a letdown when compared to the original in the story department but makes up for it in the visuals and the screenplay ... Although the movie will make a lot of moolah because of the Diwali/Eid holidays it is not the right start for the era of remakes .... To sum it up it is basically a story with a lot of promise but turns out to be unfortunately average when viewed in totality ..... Rating : 6.0/10

well...first things first..i would firstly like to differ wid taran adarsh's review big time..a wonderful movie to hv come out in recent times..n ya ppl..stop comparing it wid the old one..coz old is gold!!!!but kudos to farhan akhtar n team.srk does brilliantly aftr kank.priyanka is top notch n kareena looks cool.. songs are well placed n the movie has all the logic wich taran adarsh was looking for is very much thr.songs r brilliant wid khaike paan banaras waala being the best.but wat i think is malaika in place of kareena n kareena in place of isha koppikar would hv been more effective as isha doesnt know a of acting..gud dat farhan gives her a role wich hides her inefficiencies at best.. to end its unbelievable climax kept me on the edge of my seat alltogether..so i would say don definitely is one of the gr8est movies to come out this yr...n has the power to hv a dream run at box office.. thumbs up to this team!!!!mazaa aa gaya

hi folks, i am neither fan of SRK and nor SK, but after watching both movies, i can say clearly that Don is not to the expectation of what many thought and despite Jannemann brings all the surprise. Salman has performed so well and I want to see SRK in different actin style, not the usual one. i not only read from the reviews from indiafm but from other sources, this time, Janneman stole the shows and finally even the media and critics are trying to do some justice. enjoy all

My message to all movie lovers....watch Don....and dont compare it to the earlier Don. Farhan Akthar has been saying it his interpretation of Don and has given credit to the work done by SALIM-JAVED....it is a thought that every human being has....what if it was like this???? IT is the same way...Farhan thought...how would Don if I it would be like this...that is the new Don...after watching the movie...I was just sitting in the theatre hall stunned seeing the climax...Man...only a person like Farhan Akthar can make such a movie...a classic...remade to be made as another classic....I never thoguht Sharukh Khan could pul off the role...but he was awesome...all the actors did their part well...Everybody go ahead and watch Don - The Chase Begins Again....excellent work Farhan and team....and to Taran Adarsh...you are a good critic...but it doesnt mean that all what you write should be correct....Last year you gave 4 stars to Deewane Huye Paagal....and all over India...it never had the standard of a 1 star..also....so your 3 stars...for Don...will misguide viewers...but Don..will be a winner for sure...

First of all, I don't understand why the old DON is compared to new DON. I thought the movie will not be a good one. But after watching the show, I felt that the director's work should be appreciated. SRK and all other performance are very good. I will certainly see this movie again after few weeks. Hope the movie will become hit.

saw DON 1st day 1st show. SRKs DON has to be different and it is. this is more appealing visually and technically but what about the cast and the characterisation.......hmmmm give it a scratch. other than SRK and BOMAN (hats off great actor and good show u score the rank 1) none of the characters stand in ur mind after u come out of the hall. the 1st half runs a in a very good speed the second half FARHAN was thinking what to do and how to match the previous don. 1 biggest problem with srks DON is it tries hard to match with the original.the screenplay of the movie in the latter half is choked. S-E-L were confused with the songs and background. sharukh is good as DON but in the latter half he looks disinterested. cinematography is excellent. arjun rampal was very good though i felt he was let down by the script. what was ishe and kareena doing here maaaaaan. priyanka chopra still needs to work on her acting skills her skills looks forced but the most natural was BOMAN and SRK to a certain extent. the movie can be cut short 2nd half is where it staggers. on the whole the movie has a big HOLE. its a movie where as soon as the champagne is opened it fizzes out.......3/10. watch the movie eraing from ur mind that there was earlier a movie called DON still you would be dissapointed.
