Border 2 Box Office: Film becomes all-time 2nd highest Republic Day grosser; overtakes Fighter and Padmaavat

Border 2 has scripted a remarkable chapter in Hindi cinema’s Republic Day box-office history, emerging as the second-highest Republic Day grosser of all time and reaffirming the enduring commercial power of large-scale patriotic spectacles.

On January 26, the Sunny Deol–led war drama recorded a massive Rs. 63.59 crore collection, placing it just behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which continues to hold the all-time Republic Day record with Rs. 70.50 crore. With this performance, Border 2 has officially secured the No. 2 position on the list of highest Republic Day single-day grossers, surpassing several major releases that had previously dominated the holiday window.

The magnitude of Border 2’s Republic Day haul becomes particularly striking when compared with recent holiday performers. Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, which also leaned heavily on nationalistic sentiment and aerial combat spectacle, had collected Rs. 41.20 crore on Republic Day more than Rs. 20 crore less than Border 2. Similarly, historical epic Padmaavat managed Rs. 32 crore, while Sky Force followed closely with Rs. 31.60 crore, figures that now appear modest in comparison.

Earlier Republic Day successes such as Raees (Rs. 26.3 crore) and Jai Ho (Rs. 26.25 crore) underline how dramatically audience turnout has scaled upward for the holiday in the post-pandemic era. Films like Agneepath (Rs. 23 crore), Race 2 (Rs. 20.7 crore) and Kaabil (Rs. 18.67 crore) further contextualise Border 2’s achievement, highlighting the widening gap between traditional holiday openers and today’s event-driven cinema.

Trade analysts point out that Border 2’s Republic Day box-office performance is the result of a rare alignment of factors: the legacy value of the Border franchise, Sunny Deol’s proven mass appeal in patriotic roles, and the film’s strategic positioning around a national holiday that historically favours war and action dramas. The Rs. 63.59 crore figure reflects strong footfalls across single screens, mass circuits and multiplexes alike, indicating that the film resonated beyond nostalgia and into contemporary audience sentiment.

While Pathaan remains the undisputed leader of the Republic Day box-office chart, Border 2’s second-place ranking is a landmark achievement in its own right. By outperforming titles like Fighter, Padmaavat and Raees, the film has firmly established itself as one of the biggest Republic Day releases in Hindi cinema history. As discussions around its lifetime business continue, January 26 will stand out as a defining day one that elevated Border 2 into the elite league of all-time Republic Day blockbusters.
