Ever thought what would've happened if there was no internet? Now don't be such a dumb! There, obviously, would not be any 'for your eyes only' Candice Boucher. So all you would've asked God was to make you her next door neighbour. That would sort you out I guess! But argue all you want, the case can be made that Candice is one of the coolest babes on the planet I've ever met. She's more than just a pretty face and a hot body. Come to think of it, Boucher is exactly like your next door neighbour - fun loving, talks her heart out and doesn't talk bull****. So the other day when I mentioned the name Candice Boucher to another guy on the music launch of Aazaan, he had a grin on his face, while, no doubt, fantasizing. But when I mentioned her name to a female celebrity friend, the response was almost 'no response'. She said, "Candice is pretty", then after a pause continued, "Pretty tall I mean". Well, we all know what she meant, didn't we? Wherever she goes, heads turn. Yes, they really turn. And by the end of the night you really require that pain relief balm. To be honest, the more time you spend with Candice, you find out that she is a bit reserved too, a bit vulnerable, and wouldn't really reveal too much about her boyfriend. But the moment she did, the Earth started to tremble. So did I. Then I looked at her face and the Earth stood still. I wish I could pause this moment in my life. But I can't, and with that final warm hug she bid good-bye. My delectable 'date' disappeared but left behind for me those special two hours we spent together that I can pause and have a look at it again and again and again.....
Devansh Patel: So you're telling me that you really don't want to try Hollywood at all?
Candice Boucher: Yes, not for the time being. I really don't want to jump from one thing to the other. Right now my modelling is going pretty well. Once you go into the movies, modelling suffers big time. I'm really enjoying my work as of now and I'm not doing the same kind of work that I used to do. I know the time I have left in the modelling world is less but I'd want to capitalise on every moment I have.
DP: Do you recall your first catalogue shoot?
CB: Aahh! I really have to think now. If I'm not mistaken, I did a Russian brand. It was this swim wear thing.
DP: Which has been your best catalogue ever?
CB: Again this is a tough one. My German catalogues are good because they are steady clients. It's a bit monotonous but it's satisfying. The 'Guess' jeans was great to do with a wonderful crew. I pushed a little bit further than what I was used to doing.
DP: Let me tell you this, I love the South African accent. I can even imitate you guys.
CB: (laughs) Oh yea. Let's see you do it.
DP: Ok then. I first started imitating my two colleagues who were from South Africa back in my London days.
CB: Oh, is it? And do you meet them often?
DP: Not really. I've left the UK now and based in India. I was working in the UK for eight years. That's where I met them. But tell me, are you an avid reader? - CB: Yes, I am. I read a lot. At the moment I’m reading this whole ‘Spud’ series. I don’t know if you know the movie. It’s the psychological aspect that intrigues me. I’m re-reading that at nights. It’s a good laugh. DP: Oh wait, hang on! Have you seen the movie?
CB: Oh no!!!!! Everyone's been telling me that. I really want to now. Is it true that no one could've played that role better than Noomi Rapace?
DP: Yes you are spot on. She did a fabulous job. Now come on, teach me some good South African delicacies. What's special as far as food is concerned?
CB: It's always meat. Steak is famous. But the sea food is the most preferred. We catch it and make it right there (laughs)
DP: What? Wow! And a glass of wine to go with it I'm sure.
CB: Oh yes. But I have to be a bit careful. That's a lot of calories (laughs)
DP: Oh come on! Girls like you burn it out on the treadmill every morning.
CB: Yes, that's true too. I have to be honest, I enjoy my cheeses too, wine and a lot of these delicacies.
DP: Have you ever tried the Indian sizzlers? Do you like it?
CB: I love it. Yes.
DP: Do you cook yourself too?
CB: Sometimes I do but (laughs) my boyfriend is a good cook so that helps a lot.
DP: Oh GOD! What have you done? You've revealed that you have a boyfriend. Let this 'date' end right here.
CB: (laughs) No! But often he cooks for me. I am very spoilt like that. I tend not to cook when I am travelling. I am an awful cook because I get all the smoke detectors buzzing (laughs).
DP: You should come to my house. I'd love to cook for you someday. And for that you need to be coming all the way from South Africa.
CB: That won't be a problem because I do visit India often. - DP: Ok, I got my answer. Tell me something, what attracts you to this mystic country called India? DP: Ok, I got my answer. Tell me something, what attracts you to this mystic country called India?
CB: When I came here for the first time six years ago, I just left from here in tears. This country really touched me. It was a huge culture shock. There was so much richness in them. I went back home and that put my life in perspective. The appreciation for life, that family unity, etc, I find that very strong in India. The whole spirituality of India is very beautiful to me.
DP: You have to tell me this: What Bollywood movies have you seen till now?
CB: I have, trust me but I'm bad with names. I have this channel in South Africa where the movies are seen. We have to obviously watch them with subtitles (laughs). I've seen the Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai movie (laughs). See, I got some names right.
DP: What a way to end our date isn't it? It's pouring outside. To be really honest, this is my first 'monsoon' date. And I'm lucky to have you Candice. You love the monsoon?
CB: Thank you. I don't really like monsoon because I'm a summer girl. I love the sun. I grew up on the beach. It's my favourite time of the year. I am not a fan of the cold weather too.
DP: Well, no wonder you bring the 'hot' weather wherever you go darling. It was a pleasure meeting you sweetheart.
CB: (laughs) Thank you. Me too. It was one of the most different 'date' of my life. I'll remember it. And of course that Martini glass (laughs).
