Rang De Basanti
Cast: Aamir Khan, Alice Patten, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan and R. Madhavan
Director: Rakeysh Mehra
The Story: A young idealistic English Film-maker Sue (Alice Patten) comes to India to make a documentary drama on Bhagat Singh and his contemporaries during the freedom struggle. After failing to gather funds for the film, she decides to recruit students from the Delhi University.
She finds DJ (Aamir Khan), an ex-student who passed out five years back but still wants to be a part of the University because he doesn't think there's too much out there in the world out there to look forward to. Aslam (Kunal Kapoor) is a middle class Muslim boy who lives in the bylanes near Jama Masjid. Sukhi (Sharman Joshi) is the group's baby, vulnerable and has a weakness only for women. Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) is the fundamentalist in the group and Sonia (Soha Ali Khan) who is a tomboy and vivacious is engaged to Ajay (Madhavan) - a pilot.
Sue's film makes DJ and his friends stop and stare at themselves for being the actual descendants of these great men and never recognizing and celebrating their courage and spirit. That is where the story of Rang De Basanti begins...
What to watch out for: The look of the film is very different and unconventional. Besides, after looking at his past work (Aks) one can definitely expect something unique and different from director Rakeysh Mehra. Aamir Khan is back again in a young and urban sort of character after Dil Chahta Hai. The talented young actor Kunal Kapoor is back after a long break. They are also joined by actors like Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and Hollywood actress Alice Pattern. A.R.Rehman's music cannot go wrong and the title song by Daler Mehendi is already making waves. The combo of such talented cast and Rakeysh Mehra's creativity definitely makes it one of the most looked after film.
Release date: 20th January 2006
Don - The Chase Begins Again
Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Isha Koppikar
Director: Farhan Akhtar
The Story: The film will be a remake of the 70's hit movie Don that stared Amitabh Bachchan. In that movie, Amitabh plays a double role with one being the original don who dies and another one replaces him. It was a complete thriller movie.
In the new version of Don , Shah Rukh Khan will play Amitabh's role, Arjun Rampal will fit in Praan's role , Kareena Kapoor will be seen in Helen's while Priyanka Chopra in Zeenat Amaan's role.
This film will possibly stick to the storyline of the original Don but in a contemporary style. Besides, one notable difference in the film is the addition of Isha Koppikar's character in the film that wasn't really a part of the earlier Don.
What to watch out for: Javed Akhtar co-scripted the original. His son Farhan Akhtar is directing the remake. Farhan's contemporary adaptation to this all-time hit thriller is something to look forward to. Also, SRK portraying the role of AB in the film makes it even more exciting.
