Deepika Padukone, who made her debut as a designer last year with Van Heusen's Autumn Winter 2013 collection, unveiled her latest designs for Van Heusen Limited Edition Spring Summer 2014 collection at a grand event yesterday. She says that her latest collection is "easy and effortlessly fitted, keeping the summer season in mind".
For her debut ramp show as a designer, Deepika handpicked 10 lucky girls from the 3,800 women who took part in an online contest to 'Walk the Ramp with Deepika'. The show started with the 10 fans showcasing Deepika's designs in white, followed by seasoned models.
In India, I think my dad, in his own way is very stylish. He sports this stylish side parting puff. He may not be an actor but he is definitely one of the most stylish sportsperson our country has seen."
Deepika believes that she is a very classic dresser. "My style has always been very simple and basic. I don't like accessorising too much," she added.
Deepika claims her mother to be her style icon and her greatest influence. She pointed out "I don't have any one particular designer that I swear by. I think my mother was a huge influence in the way I dress today because she has always dressed very elegantly. Her style is very simple and minimalistic. I think growing up as a young teenage girl, the way you mother dresses influences your style."
For the finale all 10 girls wore the same black polka dotted dress. They were then joined by the dazzling showstopper Deepika Padukone, who wore the same outfit as her fans. "The whole show stemmed from the idea of having myself and all the girls wear the same design. It started with an idea of a photo-op and then the idea just grew and grew and we decided to have a grand ramp show," says Deepika
When quizzed about turning designer, Deepika replied, "It is just a natural progression, I don't think I ever planned to do this. Being a model, you get the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing talent not just in the country but around the world. All the people I have worked with have influenced my style at some point. When this collaboration came about with Van Heusen, I thought it is a fun thing to do."
