As expected, the Hollywood release, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, stole the march at the ticket window by taking a substantial lead from its first show onwards, eclipsing the three new releases in Hindi - PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, 404 and KASHMAKASH. Over the years, the multi-billion dollar Disney franchise had cultivated a strong fan-base in India, which explains why the new installment of PIRATES was expected to open very well. The 3D version of the film opened better [75% to 80%] than 2D [50% to 60%] everywhere … PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA was well promoted, but the opening shows were in 15% to 20% range. Let's see if the numbers escalate from Friday evening onwards … 404 may have received rave reviews, but the opening numbers were poor everywhere. Sure, this is a word of mouth film and like P.K.P., here's hoping that 404 gathers momentum over the weekend … KASHMAKASH has had a very limited release and the opening numbers were dull.
