The two major releases this Eid, KIDNAP and DRONA, were released in U.K. on Wednesday itself, which means it was a 5-day weekend for the two biggies. KIDNAP started with a bang on Wednesday, grossing approx. £ 65,000, but slided downwards on Thursday [approx. £ 44,000]. The Friday to Sunday total is £ 1,29,824 and the 5-day total is £ 2,43,309 on 51 screens.
On face-value, the figure [£ 2,43,309] may seem impressive, but the fact remains that given the festival period and a 5-day weekend, everyone was expecting the film to touch approx. £ 3,50,000 in its 5-day weekend, but the negative reports have hit the film hard.
On the other hand, DRONA is a debacle of epic proportions. It started with approx. £ 33,000 on Wednesday and approx. £ 19,000 on Thursday, but the Friday to Sunday total was a mere £ 64,528. The 5-day total is £ 1,17,854 on 56 screens. Washout!
