Sooryavanshi clocks approx. Rs. 52 cr. profit with 26.45% RoI; understanding the overall economics and the box office

The Rohit Shetty directed Akshay Kumar – Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi released over a month ago. Also featuring special appearances from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn the film which was the first big ticket Bollywood entertainer to hit screens post the second lockdown has done rather well. After opening to a thunderous response from the critics and audience alike the business of Sooryavanshi witnessed exponential growth with each passing day. Now, despite its release on the OTT streaming platform Netflix, the Akshay Kumar starrer still continues to run in selected locations. In this box office special report, we take a look at the Economics of Sooryavanshi to better understand how profitable the film was for its makers.

Sooryavanshi clocks approx. Rs. 52 cr. profit with 26.45% RoI; understanding the overall economics and the box office

Made on a staggeringly high budget of Rs. 160 cr., with another Rs. 20 cr. being spent on Prints and Publicity and Rs. 20 cr. being the cost of interest on investment, due to the delay in the film release, the total cost of production for Sooryavanshi stands at a massive Rs. 200 cr. However, the film which garnered favourable reviews from the critics and enthralled the audience is likely to rake in Rs. 200 cr. at the box office, from which the distributor share is likely to be Rs. 90 cr. This Rs. 90 cr. coupled with Rs. 27.90 cr. distributor share from the overseas box office, Rs. 45 cr. from the satellite rights sale, Rs. 80 cr. from the sale of the film’s digital streaming rights and another Rs. 10 cr. from the sale of its music has earned the makers of Sooryavanshi a total of Rs. 252.90 cr.

With Rs. 252.90 cr. coming in from the film, the makers of the Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi whose budget was Rs. 200 cr. stand to earn Rs. 52.90 cr. as pure profit, with 26.45% rate of Return on Investment (RoI). All in all, it seems that the film was a massive success for its makers, despite the delayed release which added to the initial cost.
