The Chandraprakash Dwivedi directed Akshay Kumar starrer Samrat Prithviraj was released yesterday. Also featuring Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonu Sood, the historical drama was expected to start with flying colours. However, the film which was released across 3750 screens [Hindi: 3550 + Tamil and Telugu: 200], in India has started off on a lackluster note.
In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Samrat Prithviraj while comparing the same to previous releases that have hit the big screens post the pandemic. Collecting Rs. 10.70 cr, the film has emerged as the seventh-highest opening day grosser post the pandemic. In fact, the film does not surpass the opening day business of previous releases like KGF - Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 53.95 cr, Sooryavanshi which collected Rs. 26.29 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 20.07 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 14.11 cr, Bachchhan Paandey which had collected Rs. 13.25 cr, and 83 which collected Rs. 12.64 cr.
However, the film does manage to fare better than certain other releases post the pandemic like Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 10.50 cr, Heropanti 2 which collected Rs. 6.5 cr, and Antim - The Final Truth which had collected Rs. 5.03 cr. Going forward, the business of Samrat Prithviraj is expected to see further growth in business over its opening weekend.
