Karan Johar returned to the role of a director a week ago through the romantic comedy cum social drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film, which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, is not only garnering a positive reaction from the critics and audiences but also earning well at the box office. The Dharma Productions’ film has netted over Rs. 70 crores in one week in India so far.
But that’s not all. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has also proved to be a winner overseas. In fact, the film has become the second highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2023 in the overseas markets by amassing $ 7.27 million and is still running strong. By doing that, it has overtaken the Salman Khan starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which earned a figure of $ 6.20 million. The Salman starrer is now in the third spot. Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar is number four with $ 5.20 million.
The first film on the list is the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan and that movie is way ahead of the rest. The Yash Raj Films’ movie earned a mammoth $ 47.88 million in its lifetime in the overseas market in 2023.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly in pivotal roles.
